An RCBO is a residual current circuit breaker with overcurrent protection and monitors electrical circuits to keep them running safely, disconnecting the circuit if it is unbalanced. These devices are commonly used where there is a need to combine protection against overload, short circuit and earth leakage current.
RCBOs are commonly used in applications where there is the need to combine protection against overcurrents (overload and short-circuit) and protection against earth leakage currents. RCBOs help in sensing this kind of faults and trip the circuit ensuring complete protection of the people and connected equipments.
However, you can meet these specifications and save space on the circuit breaker panel.on some circuits, you can replace two devices (RCD and circuit breaker) with a single device (RCBO). This will protect these circuits against current leaks and overloads at the same time.
Water within electrical equipment or joints can cause an R.C.D. to trip off if leakage of current travels from a live conductor to earth. And also a connection between neutral to earth can also cause the tripping off result.
If it is the case in your gaff, replacing one lighting system circuit mcb with an RCBO would cause it to trip (shared neutral). Replacing both would not prevent this either, you would have to put both circuits on the one RCBO.
An RCD device complete with overcurrent protection is called an RCBO, or residual current circuit breaker with overcurrent protection. The primary functions of RCBOs are to ensure protection against earth fault currents, overload, and short circuit currents.
